5 Reasons Why You Should Start A Blog

When I first discovered blogging, it was a whole new world to me. The whole concept of blogging about anything you love or have an interest in, had definitely driven me to start my very own and who better to start a blog with than my sister! Reading and seeing so many different types of blogs had given me the inspiration and a sort of stepping stone to guide me through the blogging journey and I'm enjoying every minute of it. Yes, there are millions of blogs out there but there's always room for more! So here's 5 reasons why you should start your own.

1. You can share your thoughts on anything you are passionate about

Your blog is like your own little platform where you can voice your own opinions, share your own thoughts and advice on something you love or have a general passion for. For example we love all things beauty, hence why this blog is mainly beauty related, well the name kind of gives it away lol. Whether it be travel, food, fashion, beauty etc, you can go in whichever direction you want and theres no rules to what is right or wrong, its all down to you!

2. Blogging is a great hobby

Blogging is a great way to pass some free time and you don't even have to move from your sofa, which is an added perk! For me its like a hobby, I like to blog whenever I'm free as I can't usually blog regularly due to education and other commitments. So don't feel pressurised in having to put up a blog post up regularly, if you can't then thats completely fine because theres no rules to when and how you blog, just treat it like its your hobby.

3. You could earn money from your blog

There are are so many bloggers out there who are earning a living from their blog and you could be one of those people too. For most people blogging is their job and they treat their blog like a business. The great thing about it is you can work any hours you like because you are your own boss. However just a side note, it does take a lot of time and effort before earning money off your blog so just take it slow you know...theres no rush!

4. Blogging can help to build your confidence

You're able to communicate with so many different people, whether it be people who leave you comments on your blog or communicate with you via social media accounts, its a great way to talk to new people and build up your confidence. You'll come across people who share the same interests as you and its always great when bloggers support one another on their content. Blogging has definitely contributed to building my confidence as I was always slightly hesitant in starting a blog, always worrying about people judging my opinion, but I've learnt that it is your blog at the end of the day and there are people out there who will love to read your content.

5. You can help inspire others

The reason we started the THEBEAUTYSPOT was because of reading so many other related beauty blogs which inspired us to start our very own. Its your platform where you can share your advice and interests which could have a positive impact on someones life - that seems pretty rewarding if you ask me. So it may be your blog that could inspire someone out there in the world (pretty deep stuff)....

So those are just 5 reasons why we think you should start your own blog. There are endless reasons why you should start blogging but this post would probably get a tad too long so I think I'll stop there. If any of you guys have a blog make sure to leave your blogs in the comments below and also your twitter or instagram names as we would love to follow some new bloggers! :) xx

4 Beauty Products To Get You Ready For Summer

Its time to wave goodbye to Spring and welcome Summer with open arms. So its out with the thick knitwear and coats and in with the light summery florals, ready for the sun! (which you don't get much of when living in the UK). As well as making changes to our wardrobe styles, we also like to change up our makeup, so we picked out 4 beauty products from our stash which we feel will get you summer ready and help you achieve a bronzed and glowy look...

Starting off with base, the Charlotte Tilbury Light wonder foundation...well the name pretty much says it all. This super light formula, blends into the skin seamlessly, without the trouble of looking cakey or dry. It hydrates the skin at the same time, so you don't have to worry about slathering on a heavy weight moisturiser underneath to keep the dry patches away. What I love about it most is the natural glow it gives to the skin, it doesn't leave you with a greasy/glittery residue on the face, but more of a glow from within. Definitely my favourite foundation at the moment.

When it comes to bronzer, we can be quite picky I have to admit as you have to get the shade right for your skin tone. Not too orange toned and not too cool toned but somewhere in between. The Sephora sun disk bronzer not only looks beautiful but the shades are perfect to create that natural bronze, without looking too obvious on the skin. It has a perfect blend of a warm and cool toned brown, with some pink and a slight shimmer running through it. This is one of those all-in-one products, that you can apply on-the-go. Unfortunately this was a limited edition bronzer but there is a similar one here.

The Sephora kiss me balms are the perfect lip products to carry around in your handbag. Not only did the extremely cute packaging draw us into purchasing this product but also the insane colour pay off- for a lip balm they are one of the best I have come across. The shade 06, which is a berry shade, is definitely my favourite, as it instantly adds a pop of colour to the lips without drying out the lips. These are perfect for the summer, when you don't want to go all out with the heavy lip products. We've mentioned a full review here.

Last but not least, I've saved the best till last, the Sleek contour kit (in light). We had this for quite a while but never got around to using it, until recently and we have fallen in love with it ever since! It comes with a contour shade which is the perfect cool toned brown to achieve those chiseled cheek bones. Also a beautiful, a rosy pink blush shade with a gold shimmer running through it, which just screams summer and finally a highlighter which is the star of this palette for me. This champagne highlighter has some seriously good pigmentation. It leaves a beautiful sheen to the skin and looks stunning when it catches the light - one of my favourite highlighters at the moment!

Let us known what are your favourite beauty products for the summer. We love trying out new stuff and reading other suggestions! x

Sephora 'Kiss Me' Balms

Shade 08 on the left and shade 06 on the right

I've always been after a tinted lip balm that hydrates the lips as well as giving good colour pay off. Yes, most of us have our little round pots of tinted vaseline in our hand bags, but it just isn't enough to give that pop of colour when you're on the go, and when you don't want to go all out with the lipstick. Well say hello to the Sephora kiss me balms, which are probably the cutest addition to your beauty collection and easy to throw into the handbag.

First of all lets take a moment to appreciate how adorable the packaging of these lipbalms. They are too cute! If im being honest, I thought they would be another one of those ordinary tinted lipbalms, that didnt give much colour payoff or really hydrate the lips. However I must say im pretty impressed! The colour payoff is amazing and so smooth on the lipss. Also I find it doesnt dry my lips out throughout the day and really keeps them hydrated. Its great to keep with you in your bag or pocket for a quick add of colour on the go!

Makeup Revolution Bronzer as a Highlighter?

For the past year or so I have been really getting into highlighting, so there is one product which has become a staple in my kit. This bronzer from Makeup Revolution in Golden days, is amazing! As it is slightly too light for our skin tone, I have doubled this up as a highlighter as well as an eyeshadow for everyday. Yes i know what am i doing using a bronzer as a highlighter but trust me it works wonders.

I discovered this product when I was after a subtle highlighter for everyday - all my highlighters seemed a tad too glam as I'm into very subtle makeup for work. When I tried this I instantly fell in love with it! So I decided, why not try it as an eyeshadow aswell, and it didn't fail to impress and amaze me! A slight shimmer on the eyes with a matte brown as a crease shade is the perfect eyeshadow look on a day to day basis. Now this has become my go to highlighter for me (although technically it is a bronzer) for everyday. To add a more intense, shimmer wetting the brush with a little water or makeup fixing spray is the way to go! The best part is, that this product is so affordable at only £4 which is a total bargain!

The Eyeshadow Singles You need

Eyeshadows are probably one of the most prettiest things to look at in a makeup collection. Even if I don't wear half of the shades, I just have the urge to buy them and add them to my slowly growing makeup collection. So as far as palettes, there are some great ones out there which have been hyped about loads in the beauty industry, however when it comes to eyeshadows singles, its always a lot more trickier as you are way more spoilt for choice. So we've whittled it down to just four single eyeshadows which are ones which stand out the most in our collection and ones that can be worn on their own and nothing else needed.

Starting off with on of my all time favourites which is the L'oreal colour riche eyeshadow in lumiere 507, pin up pink.  This is a stunning soft pink shade with a subtle gold shimmer running through it. Not heavy glitter which can lead to fall out, but more of a subtle sheen which makes it wearable for every occasion. Couple this with a soft brown in the crease and you're sorted, leaving you with the most natural beautiful eyeshadow look.

One eyeshadow which I was pleasantly surprised by is the Makeup revolution eyeshadow in copper  which sadly I can't seem to find anywhere anymore. I received this as a gift a while ago so I'm not too sure where its from but I absolutely love the formula of these eyeshadows. Who else hates it when that happens, when you find a really good product and then its no longer available?... Anyways back to the main topic here this formula is so buttery and pigmented so a little goes a long way! Also this shade is such a pretty bronzey gold shade and lets not forget about the amazing affordable prices of these shadows. (Sadly ours did break. I had a attempt at trying to press it back in order to preserve what I have left of it...)

Max factor excess shimmer on the left and Maybelline colour tattoo on the right

Moving on to creams now. So starting off with the Max factor excess shimmer eyeshadow in bronze, which is a firm favourite of mines. First of all lets address the formula here...boy are they creamy and light almost resembling a mousse-like texture! They aren't highly pigmented but I would say but they give the perfect amount of colour which gives that extra something-something to the eye...you know what I mean right? This shade in particular is perfection and simply wearing this on its own is enough! Full review here.

Last but not least the very hyped about Maybelline colour tattoo in on and on bronze. You're probably spotting a bronzey trend going on here, so yes I do love my bronze shades. This is a more pigmented cream eyeshadow with a formula which stays on all day! The colour pay off is literally amazing. The finish of this colour is more metallic than shimmer, with no creasing or smudging throughout the day. It really is worth the hype and I need to get my hands on more shades!

Our Favourite Foundation Combination

I have to admit mixing foundations was something that didn't quite float my boat if you asked me about a year ago, however when I saw my sister give it a go and saw the result it gave, I decided to brave it out and give it go (such a daredevil I am...) Both the foundations which I tried are two really great products and combined together gave something which is even more beautiful. The Giorgio armarni luminous silk foundation and the Charlotte tilbury light wonder foundation have been at the top of our list when it comes to the best bases.

Now you may know if you have read some of our previous posts that dewy foundations are always the choice we opt for over matte finishes. The Giorgio armani foundation gives a beautiful luminescent glow to the skin without looking dry or cakey, whilst the Charlotte tilbury foundation is a lot more dewy, giving a fresh heathy glow the skin and plus its is super light, so it doesn't even feel like you're wearing anything on the skin. It consists of pseudo-ceramides which really hydrates the skins as well which is great if you have dry skin like us. Both of these together are such a dreamy combination. If someone could make a close to perfect foundation it would be the combination of these two. The finish it gives is a beautiful dewy and glowy look without looking oily and greasy. For oily skins you may need to powder quite bit but for the dry skin girls out there, this combo will definitely be keeping your skin happy and hydrated.

The Perfect Matte Eyeshadow Palette You Need

Matte eyeshadows are so on trend recently and finding the right matte eyeshadow palette can be a difficult task as you need the right shades to suit your skin tone and the look that you're going for. Whether you're after a matte smoky palette or a matte nudes palette, there is something out there for everyone but you just have to go out there and find it (or you can just go make your own palette at a mac counter, but that can always work out to be pretty expensive).

So back to the main point here - the perfect matte eyeshadow palette? Well yes, I can say hands down the Too faced natural matte eyeshadow palette is one of the best natural matte eyeshadow palettes I have come across. It consists mainly of warm shades which is definitely my kind of taste when it comes to eyeshadows. I love the whole layout of the palette where its been divided into three looks the top row for a day look, the middle for a classic look and the bottom row for a fashion look. Now even though I don't always stick to those particular rules for each look as I like to mix and match and create whatever look I fancy at the time, I do think its a great way to split the shades where you have your browns and pinky purples and oranges all laid out for you.

The formula of these shades are out of this world - so buttery and smooth and easy to blend. This is my first time trying something form the brand and I have to say I couldn't be more impressed. When it comes to my favourite shades to pick out from this palette, I can easily say every single one of them are just amazing and exactly what I've been searching for in a palette but if I had to pick a few some of my faves I would say sexpresso (top row, right), strapless (middle row, middle) and chocolate cookie (bottom row, right) are my go-to's from this palette.

If you're after a matte natural eyeshadow palette then I would highly recommend giving this one a try as I'm pretty sure you'll love it just as much as I do.

Christmas Beauty Gift Purchases

I love the amazing beauty gifts sets makeup brands comes out with every christmas. Even though most of them are minis of the full size products, they allow you to have a little test of what its like which you can then go onto purchase the full size depending on whether you liked it or not. This year I picked up a few gift sets this year which I'm excited to give a try as some of them are products I've never tried before...

Benefit party like a rockstar gift set
Benefit minis are far too cute and since I haven't tried much from the brand except for the 'they're real mascara' I thought it was time to pick up one of the benefit gift sets so I get a sample of some of the most hyped about makeup products such as the Hoola bronzer and the Porefessional. I also loved the eyeshadow shades in this palette with neutral brown tones which you can never go wrong with and suits all skin types. Very excited to give these a try.

Makeupforever cult makeup set
The arrival of Makeupforever to the UK has been one of the best things for beauty lovers out there which includes myself. I haven't tried anything from the brand previously, so once I saw this cult makeup set which includes some of their staple and well known products, I didn't even think twice before bringing this home with me. It comes with a cute orange makeup bag encased all the products. The product I am dost excited to try is the HD translucent powder and their Step 1 primer as I've heard such great things about them!

Estee lauder eyeshadow set
Every year Estee Lauder come out with some of the best christmas gift sets in my opinion. This year I had to pick up their beautiful book of eyeshadows which consists of three amazing and wearable eyeshadow palettes and some beautiful lip colours too. It just looked too pretty to not takeaway with me - which seems to always be my excuse for buying makeup. What I love about this is that the three palette are removable so you can take one or the others travelling with you instead of carrying the whole book with you. You get a mix of matte and shimmer shades which you can use to create day looks or evening looks all in one palette.

The names of the three palettes: smoky skies, tempting nudes, steel orchid

Lancome mascara gift set
Lancome have a great range of mascaras, which give a variety of different looks depending on if you want to go natural or all out and dramatic. This year they had little mascara gift sets which include a eye makeup remover and a eye pencil too. I went for the 'magnetic eyes' which gives more of a dramatic look as I have plenty of natural looking mascaras in my makeup stash. I think this is a great gift for any mascara lover. Once I give this a try I will make sure to report back to you guys.

Recent Skincare Faves

When skin goes through that bad phase, it seems as though it will never go back to being right again. My skin can often go through a period where it becomes super dry and flaky, and whatever I apply leaves me with a stinging sensation on my face - highly unpleasant I know. Whenever my skin is going through the 'bad phase' I try and make sure my skin care routine is up to date and I am taking extra care of my skin (because often I do get pretty lazy when it comes to skin care). Hence I like to pull out some trusty favourites which I know works for my skin and some new favourites which my skin seems to have fallen in love with. Here are some products which have helped get my skin get back to normality....

Dermalogica skin smoothing cream
If I had to choose one moisturiser that I can one hundred percent rely on, it would be this one - the Dermalogica skin smoothing cream. Its a medium weight cream which leaves your skin feeling so soft that it leaves you wanting to feel your face all day! It doesn't leave your face greasy, and it hydrates your face throughout a full day. I love using this with my dermalogica multi active toner - together they are an amazing combo for the skin. Although it is quite pricey it is definitely worth it.

Origins clean energy gentle cleansing oil
If you've read one of our previous posts on the best makeup remover for us, then you'd know we are pretty big fans of oil based cleansers which seem to work best when removing makeup efficiently. A new oil cleanser which we thought we'd give a try is the origins clean energy gentle cleansing oil. This is more affordable to the original one I use (read more) and seems to remove my makeup just as well. I'm still not sure whether I can say its better than the the one I use now, as I still need to give it a few more tries. However I have high hopes for this one and it has helped clean out any oil and dirt from my skin whilst still being gentle on the skin at the same time.

Garnier micellar water
Ever since I've heard or seen of Bioderma either on a blog post or a youtube video, I've been wanting to get my hands on it. As it isn't so readily available in the UK, it is a tough one to get your hands on. However rumour had it that the garner micellar water was just as good as bioderma and at a much affordable price, so I simply had to give it a go! I have to say I didn't think I would like this product but I've already gone in for a repurchase. It isn't drying on the skin and after using my oil cleanser I go over with the cleansing water which seems to get rid of any last bit of residue left over on my face giving a proper good clean. Also I like to use it in the mornings when I skip using my regular cleanser and use the micellar water just to refresh my skin and wipe off any excess.

Dermalogica daily microfoliant
I've always found exfoliators to be pretty harsh on the skin and some have caused me to break out more and leads to drying out my skin really badly. This exfoliator however is the most gentle exfoliant I have come across, It is so fine that it is in the form of a powder which gently removes dry flaky skin, leaving skin feeling so soft and smooth. Although it can be used daily I prefer to use it once a week and its really helped my skin recover from the dry flakiness. I only have samples of it and need to purchase the full size asap!
